Author Guidelines

Manuscript submission guidelines for the scientific and practical medical journal
"Therapeutics / Named after Prof. M.M. Berezhnytskyi"

General Guidelines

1. Manuscripts are accepted in Ukrainian or English; manuscripts in other languages may be considered upon prior agreement with the editorial board.
2. Manuscripts must be submitted in both electronic format (compatible with MS Windows 10) and as a printed version (single-sided printing on A4-sized sheets). The printed version must be signed by all authors and approved for publication. Both versions (electronic and printed) must be completely identical.
3. The electronic file should be named using the Latin transliteration of the first author’s surname followed by the content type (e.g., Borysenko-text, Borysenko-fig1).
4. Manuscripts should be prepared using MS Word (*.doc or *.rtf format) on A4 paper (297 x 210 mm) with 20 mm margins on all sides. The page orientation must be portrait.
5. Text must be typed using Times New Roman font, 14 pt, with 1.5 line spacing, justified alignment, no hyphenation, and paragraph indents of 10 mm (do not use the tab key for indents).
6. All pages must be numbered in the bottom right corner using Times New Roman font, 12 pt. The footer margin should be 7 mm from the bottom edge of the page.
7. The main body of the manuscript should be structured into the following sections: “Introduction,” “Objective,” “Materials and Methods,” “Results and Discussion,” “Conclusions,” and “References.” Abstracts and an informational block must also be provided in both Ukrainian and English.
8. All symbols and designations of physical units must comply with the International System of Units (SI).
9. All abbreviations should be presented in uppercase letters and spelled out at first mention (including in the Ukrainian-language abstract).
10. The maximum length of an original article is 15 pages; for review articles or lectures — up to 40 pages. Any deviations require prior approval by the Editorial Board.
11. The Editorial Board reserves the right to perform proofreading of the manuscript; substantive editing is not provided.
12. Manuscripts that do not meet these formatting requirements will not be considered for publication.

Title

1. The title of the manuscript should be written in uppercase bold letters.
2. The list of authors should be presented in lowercase bold letters: first the initials, followed by the surname.
3. If the authors are affiliated with different institutions, superscript numbers should be placed at the end of each surname to indicate their respective affiliations.
4. The official names of the institutions where the authors work should be provided in lowercase letters, listed in the order corresponding to the sequence of authors.

Abstract

1. The abstract must include the title, authors’ surnames and initials, the full name of the institution, the main body of the text, and keywords or key phrases.
2. Abstracts should be structured and contain the following sections: “Introduction,” “Objective,” “Materials and Methods,” “Results,” “Conclusions,” and “Keywords.”
3. Abstracts in both Ukrainian and English (including keywords but excluding the title, authors’ names and initials, and institution names) must contain at least 1800 characters excluding spaces.
4. Abbreviations are allowed in the abstract, provided they appear at least five times throughout the manuscript.сі.
5. The “Keywords” section must include words or phrases that appear in the abstract text.
6. All versions of the abstract must be identical in content.

Text

1. References within the text should be indicated at the end of the sentence using Arabic numerals in square brackets. References to abstracts or Internet sources are strongly discouraged, except for citations of official documents or electronic journals that do not have printed versions.
2. Every table, figure, photograph, etc., mentioned in the manuscript must be referenced in the text.
3. If the manuscript includes descriptions of studies involving human subjects, the authors must state whether the research was conducted in accordance with the ethical standards of the institutional or national research committee responsible for human experimentation, as well as with the Helsinki Declaration of 1975 and its amended version of 2000. In cases of doubt, authors should justify their approaches and provide proof that the institutional ethics board has approved the aspects of the study that may raise concerns.
4. For studies that include results from clinical trials involving medicinal products (including off-label use or for unregistered indications), authors must provide details of the clinical trial authorization in accordance with the “Procedure for Clinical Trials of Medicinal Products and Examination of Clinical Trial Materials” (Order of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine dated February 13, 2006, No. 66).
5. When referring to animal experiments, authors must indicate compliance with the “Rules for Conducting Research Using Experimental Animals” and institutional policies regarding the care and use of laboratory animals.
6. Numbered and bulleted lists must be formatted using automatic list functions.
7. The use of two or more consecutive space characters, the Tab key to set indents, or extra spaces between words and punctuation marks (such as periods, commas, quotation marks, and parentheses) is not allowed.
8. Special characters must be inserted using the "Insert/Symbol" function during text entry.
9. Formulas should be created using the MS Equation editor and numbered in parentheses on the right-hand side. Long or complex formulas should be written over multiple lines.

Tables

1. Tables should be placed directly in the manuscript after their first mention (Table _). For large tables, a 12-point font size and/or landscape orientation at the end of the file is allowed (in this case, after the first mention in the manuscript, indicate “Table _” centered on a separate line).
2. Tables should be separated from the surrounding text by one paragraph indent before and after.
3. Tables must be prepared in MS Word.
4. Tables should be labeled as “Table”, numbered consecutively according to their order of appearance in the article, and must have a title that clearly explains their content.
5. The table number and title are placed above the table without indentation; no period is placed at the end of the table titles or subtitles.
6. Tables must be concise and clearly structured; column headings should accurately reflect their content and all tables must be referenced in the text.
7. Each table must clearly indicate the unit of measurement for the indicators and the format in which data are presented (e.g., M±m; M±SD; Mt; Mo; percentiles, etc.).
8. All explanatory notes, including abbreviations, must be provided below the table.
9. All text in the table (title, column headings, row labels, cell content, notes, etc.) must be presented in both Ukrainian and English.
10. Cell content should be aligned to the top left corner.
11. Only horizontal lines are used in tables.
12. The use of the Enter key or paragraph indentation within table cells is not allowed.

Figures

1. Figures should be placed directly in the manuscript after their first mention (Fig. _). For large figures, landscape orientation at the end of the file is allowed (in this case, after the first mention in the manuscript, indicate “Figure _” centered on a separate line).
2. Figures should be separated from the surrounding text by one paragraph indent before and after.
3. Charts and diagrams should be submitted in *.doc or *.xls format; complex graphs, illustrations, and photographs — in *.jpg or *.tif format. All diagrams, graphs, and charts must be editable.
4. Figures should be labeled as “Fig.”, numbered consecutively according to the order of their appearance in the article, and must have a title that clearly explains their content.
5. The figure number and title should be placed below the figure without indentation; no period should be placed at the end of figure titles or subtitles.
6. Figures must be compact and clearly presented. Titles must correspond precisely to the content and all figures must be referenced in the text.
7. On graphs, diagrams, and charts, indicate units of measurement and the format of data presentation (e.g., M±m; M±SD; Mt; Mo; percentiles, etc.).
8. All explanations, including abbreviation definitions, must be included in notes below the figure.
9. Captions for microphotographs must specify the staining method and magnification.
10. All text in the figure (figure title, axis labels, legend, notes, etc.) must be provided in both Ukrainian and English.
11. All figures must also be submitted as separate supplementary files.
12. Figures must be clear, with a resolution of at least 300 dpi.
13. Photographs must be high-contrast, with a resolution of at least 300 dpi.

References

1. The reference list should be generated automatically in the order of citation in the text.
2. References in English must follow the format provided by PubMed (https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/). To cite, click the “Cite” button for the corresponding publication, copy the entire citation text, and paste it into the reference list. If necessary, the number of authors may be limited to 6, followed by “et al.”
3. References in languages other than English should be given first in the original language, followed in parentheses by transliteration of authors’ surnames and translation of the publication title and source name into English, based on the English abstract provided in the original source. The language of the original source should be indicated at the end of each reference, e.g., Ukrainian.
4. For transliteration of Ukrainian-language sources, use the official transliteration system approved by the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine, as per Resolution No. 55 dated January 27, 2010 (http://zakon.rada.gov.ua/laws/show/55-2010-%D0%BF).
5. To facilitate transliteration of Ukrainian sources, you may use online converters such as: http://www.slovnyk.ua/services/translit.php,http://translit.kh.ua, http://shub123.ucoz.ru/Sistema_transliterazii.html, https://translit.net/
6. To verify or find correct journal abbreviations, consult the respective journal websites or use PubMed's NLM Catalog: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/nlmcatalog/journals.
7. References to abstracts or internet sources are strongly discouraged, except for official documents or electronic journals that do not have printed versions.
8. Reference examples are provided (Appendix 1).

Abbreviations

1. The list of abbreviations should be arranged in alphabetical order: first using the Cyrillic alphabet, followed by the Latin alphabet.
2. Only abbreviations that appear at least five times in the manuscript should be included in the list.

Information

1. The informational block must be provided in both Ukrainian and English (see examples in the latest issue):

• For citation: Authors; title.
• Corresponding author: Surname, first name, and patronymic; email address; institution; postal address.
• Author information: Surname, first name, and patronymic, academic degree, academic title, position, department/unit, ORCID.
• Author contributions: Surname and initials – specific personal contribution.
• Funding: Source of funding for the research and/or manuscript; title and state registration number of the research project (for original studies).
• Ethics declaration: Information about conflicts of interest and financial disclosures.

2. For the transliteration of personal names, the official transliteration system approved by the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine, as per Resolution No. 55 dated January 27, 2010, should be used: (http://zakon.rada.gov.ua/laws/show/55-2010-%D0%BF).

If a publication has one to six authors, all authors must be listed in the reference, separated by commas.
If there are more than six authors, list the first six authors followed by “et al.”
Page ranges should be shortened where appropriate; for example, pages 123–124 should be indicated as “123–4” in the reference.
Month names in dates of access, publication, etc., should be abbreviated in accordance with the language rules of the respective country.
